Open Water Swimming Coaching
Open Water Swimming

Swimming in a triathlon can be an unpleasant experience. Your months of training become disrupted by dozens or even hundreds of other triathletes churning in the water around you, and the mental focus that was once so simple during a pleasant swim in a lane at the local swimming pool becomes almost impossible with the sudden chaos. As if that wasn't difficult enough, visibility is awful, there is no wall to push off, and the 10 degree drop in water temperature has completely taken away your breath.

But I will say, the sense of achievement afterwards is like no other! The rush you get when you finally exit the water knowing you are one third through your race and now on dry land you can really start to get going.......

COME AND ENJOY THE
RG ACTIVE EXPERIENCE.

Open Water Swimming

There is no doubt that the swim discipline of a triathlon can be the most daunting to a novice triathlete.

RG Active offer the opportunity to gain some valuable open water swim training before your summer races with organized swim evenings in different swim venues in and around London.

These sessions have been running for two years and have grown in popularity with people coming back week after week and seeing their confidence grow and their swimming improve!

You will learn the basics of open water swimming from experienced triathletes, while training with others who have exactly the same worries as you. Whether you have never swum in a wetsuit, never swum in open water or both, we will be able to answer any questions demonstrate techniques and take away ALL your fears and answer ALL your questions.

For the more experienced athletes we offer specific swim sets/drills to improve your speed in the water and get your racing off to the best possible start.

What do I need for the sessions:

- A wetsuit (triathlon specific recommended but not compulsary)

- Coloured Swim Hat

- Googles

- Brave Soldier / Body Glide (a non-petroleum based lubricant to prevent chaffing)

- swim costume / tri suit (to be worn under your wetsuit, and yes, people do forget which can be a problem when practicing transitions!)

- Towel (for after the session, showers and changing facilities are on site)

- Each session costs £15.00 and is payable on the evening of each session to a member of RG Active staff.

OUR OPEN WATER SWIM VENUES:

RG Active are pleased to tell everyone that we are back at Roydon for the 2008 summer!

Roydon Mill Lake Roydon Harlow Essex CM19 5EJ

We are pleased to announce that the popular Roydon Mill Open Water Swim sessions are back with the next session being on Tuesday 20th May 2008.

The following dates will also be available:

- Tuesday 19th August 08

- Tuesday 26th August 08

- Tuesday 2nd September 08

- Tuesday 9th September 08

The format of the evening will be the same as usual with at least two groups in the water depending on numbers and abilities. The swims will start at 7:15pm and the sessions will last one hour. We ask if all swimmers can arrive 20-40 minutes before the start of the sessions to change and register.

We ask that ALL swimmers park in the main car park and walk down to the lakeside.

There is currently a lot of building work going on at Roydon Mill so please be careful when arriving and leaving the park on swim nights.

I ask that all swimmers email me with notification of their attendance in advance via email for registration purposes, and do so every week as early as possible.

Note: The Roydon Mill Lake is a NO SWIM ZONE unless you attending one of the organized group sessions at the lake. Anyone caught swimming at Roydon outside of the group swims will jeopardize all future use of the lake for EVERYONE!

2) HAM LAKE ‘Thames Young Mariners’

We now have two venues, our new venue being in Ham SW London. The sessions will be held on Tuesday nights at Roydon as usual and on Saturday morning at out new venue in Ham.

‘Thames Young Mariners Lake’ Ham Fields Richmond, Surrey TW10 7RX

The next swim session will be Saturday 17th May and the session will start at 7am so please aim to be there to register, and change between 6:30am and 6:45am.

Places are limited for the first swim to 25 swimmers so I ask anyone interested to notify me via email of your attendance as soon as possible so I can keep check.

I can also confirm the following dates for Saturday morning sessions:

(Date to be confirmed)

I do ask that ALL swimmers park on the road out side of the main gates and walk down to the lake. Parking is limited and people do live on the site.

Those wishing to cycle to the venue are more than welcome to do so and we will find a safe a secure place to put your bikes during the time we are in the water.

There are changing facilities on site and people are more than welcome to use them. There are limited numbers of showers so I will warn people now if they are hoping for a nice warm shower after their swim!!

We are very grateful to the staff at ‘Thames Young Mariners Lake’ that they are allowing us the use of their facilities, they have been very welcoming and are quite excited about the coming summer. I hope that this venue proves as much a success as Essex has been, as I am sure it will!

If anyone has any further questions about the Ham Lake open water swim sessions please feel free to drop me an email.
