We understand that triathlon, duathlon and multisport is an expensive bobbie and there is always new equipment being launched and brought to market with, in many cases some quite dramatic claims to improve speed, power, performance, comfort and every other variable we as athletes have to contend with.
Because if this we are venturing on a new service, working with some of our sponsors to offer RG Active clients the latest in new innovations for HIRE, so you can try before you buy, or just use for racing or training without having to take out a loan, clear out your savings account or re-mortgage your home!
In time we are aiming to introduce new products to our offerings, so you can be assured we remain focussed on our goal of making multisport a less intimidating, more inclusive and more affordable for everyone who wants to TRI it.

Race wheel HIRE
At RG Active we get asked all the time about ‘race wheels’ and ‘carbon wheels’ and whether they are worth getting, and at what point in your cycling/racing life do you need them. The truth is most people don’t need them, and it is often a phycological advantage ahead of a speed advantage that sexy carbon wheels will offer an athlete, but everything counts!
Once you have decided that you want to get a pair of ‘race wheels’ then the decision of ‘what ones’ makes the decision really tough! Do you get 90mm front and rear, do you get a disc wheel, do you get a 50mm front and 90mm rear, what courses will you be racing on? All of these questions need to be answered before you buy… this is where we can now help you!
We have put together a selection of wheels that we are offering as ‘HIRE’ wheels. This will hopefully enable you to try different wheel combinations and different wheel depths before you go out and spend all that money on something that might not be right for you.
HOW MUCH IS IT TO HIRE: £100.00 for a 7 day period (collect Wednesday and return no later than the following Wednesday)
Note: Returning later than the allocated 7 day period will incur an additional £100.00 hire fee and this will be deducted from the deposit taken when ordered.
Things to know before you hire:
- We do NOT post the wheels out so please bear this in mind when considering hiring them from us. We do allow postage back to us and your deposit will be refunded when we receive the wheels back in the condition that they were given to you.
- We require a £500.00 deposit for the wheels on top of the hire fee, this will be refunded to you when the wheels are returned.
- The areas we have have the wheels are:
In East London (Walthamstow, Ilford, Chingford, Chigwell, Loughton etc).
In Central London (Moorgate, Liverpool Street, Barbican etc).
In SW London (Wimbledon, Epsom, Putney, Barnes, Richmond, Twickenham, Fulham etc)
Below shows you the different wheel combinations we offer and talks in details about the different wheels and the technology behind the Pro-Lite products:
Combination One: 50mm front Gavia and a Padova disc rear wheel (tubular).
Combination Two: 90mm front Gavia and a Padova disc rear wheel (tubular).
All of the wheels we hire from the Pro-Lite range (except the disc wheel) are from the Gavia range of wheels (50mm and 90mm rims). Pro-Lite claim that these wheels are ‘The only safe carbon clincher wheel’ and they are built around Pro-Lite unique, patent “Bolzano” hub set.
This rim was developed in co-operation with Gigantex of Taiwan to be the first full carbon clincher in the world that allows maximum pressure in the tyres, where all other alternatives restrict the pressure you can inflate your tyres to. The braking surfaced is lowered and uses impregnated Basalt to deflect any heat generated under braking which can cause the tyre to roll off due to deflection in the rim.
Each Gavia wheelset is equipped with our patented “Bolzano” hub.
The Pro-Lite Bolzano hub is designed to provide maximum power to output ratios, whilst offering superior wheel stability and structure. When coupled with the unique Pro-Lite spoke made from Swedish Stainless Steel, you have a combination that is everything the rider needs. During tests using several Pro riders, we used a power meter set at 300 watts of power over 50km and the results were amazing. The result was an average faster time over 50km of 89.2 seconds.
What were also consistent were the comments riders made after each test. The phrase “those wheels are really fast” was repeated many times. It became evident that lighter wheels flex far too much under maximum load by the rider, showing that weight saving does have its disadvantages. An overly light wheel can cause the rider to waste power. A Pro-Lite wheel allows the rider to actually go faster using the same amount of power.

As used by Team GB Fire Service, The RG Active Pro athletes, Global Racing, Ruiter Dakkapellen Wielerteam and Mario Hammer just to name a few.
First objective was to ensure we have inside foam that is of the highest standards and then we need to ensure we obtain superior stiffness without adding weight. We then brought in 3m and AGFA to have foam that is designed to reduce weight and increase strength. The combination of foam and microspheres allows us to do just that. The micropsheres basically provide incredible strength by linking the bubbles together and reduce density and weight.
The wheel is not only designed for the road but can be easily and quickly converted for use on the track.
Using the same EZO bearings we use in the Bolzano hub, the wheel has a very low rolling resistance compared to standard sealed bearing wheels and 5 bearings will ensure a lifetime of outstanding performances.
Use the Pro-Lite New 2-in-1 hub: The 2 in 1 Hub, easy to switch for Road and Track system, this takes less than one minute to achieve.

Wetsuit HIRE
Wetsuits have become an integral part of participating in triathlon and open water swim events with many event organisers making the use of wetsuits compulsory.
In line with this RG Active provide open water swim coaching and training at a number of venues across London and the surrounding counties offering athletes the opportunity to use their wetsuits prior to race day but more importantly understand how to use the wetsuit correctly, how to make it work for you to make you faster and more efficient in the water.
