V Cars Open Water Swim Race
Description
With the popularity of open water swimming growing as a sport in it’s own right there is more and more of you wanting to test your swimming ability without having to worry about cycling and running afterwards. There are also many triathletes entering these open water swim races as preparation for their own triathlon and multisport events.

Open water swimming is something that might seem scary and intimidating, but through our open water swim coaching sessions we have shown thousands of people that it doesn’t have to be scary, it can actually be great fun and give you an amazing sense of achievement.

Our TRAINING RACES offer the competitors an opportunity to gauge fitness, practise mass swim starts, swimming with others and to add a element of competition to your training in a relaxed and inexpensive environment.

The Training races will create a series made up of 6 races spread throughout the summer season (May to Sept). The races will follow the same structure with the only things outside of your control being the British weather and the other competitors racing with you.

This allows you to monitor your progress over the races throughout the season over the same course and having the series will enable you to try new things and make sure that you get a great workout as well as preparing yourself for your major ‘A’ races during the summer.

To motivate you further for anyone that is able to race at least 4 or all 6 of the races will make you eligible for the series prizes. We have been fortunate enough to secure some amazing prizes from the numerous RG Active sponsors Speedo, Rose Bikes, Mule Bar, Suunto.

Race Information
Please take time to read through this information prior to your race:

The races will start from 08:00am so we ask that you arrive in plenty of time to change, register and warm up prior to the race start. On arrival at the venue you will asked to park in specific areas by members of the RG Active marshals. You will need to register your attendance with at the registration desk where you will be given the following things:

- A coloured Speedo swim hat relevant to your race distance.

- On your hand will be written a ‘Number’, ‘Letter’ or both, this will be how the race marshals are able to record your time at the finish line of the race.

Note: At the registration desk you will also be able to purchase a selection of items including Speedo goggles, swim toys as well as sports lubricant, energy products from Mule Bar and some of the latest high tech products from Suunto.

The distances for all races have been measure by GPS equipment, however due to tidal changes in the river Thames the exact distance of the races could vary by a few metres on the morning of the race like with all open water events.

There will be three race options/distances to choose from, however EVERYONE will start in the same ‘Mass start’ at 08:00am.

Everyone will complete the first full lap of the lake and exit the water via the matted ramp.

On exiting the water the competitors racing the 750m (1 lap) course will turn sharp left at the top of the ramp and follow the cones directly to the finish line where your time will be recorded by the RG Active time keepers.

Those competitors competing in the longer 1300m (2 laps) race and 2600m (4 laps) race will be directed right at the top of the ramp where they will have to complete a short run loop on grass before running back down the ramp and into the water for their additional lap(s). At the end of the last swim lap they will exit the lake once again via the ramp and this time turn sharp left heading directly to the finish line.

When running through the finish line we ask that all competitors be respectful of the time keepers and help them to record your numbers accurately so the results will be correct when you receive them. Please make sure the ‘number’ or ‘letter’ you have written on your hand is shown to the time keepers when you cross the finish line, this signifies YOU and will be cross referenced with your time when the results are compiled after the race.

Now all you have to do is Enter, Participate and Enjoy!
