London Duathlon Ultra Session
Description
We are very pleased to offer this session as part of our ‘Official Coaching Provider’ role to the World’s biggest Duathlon, The London Duathlon.

Each year thousands of people from all over the World come to Richmond Park in the SW of London to take part in this very special event. In 2010 the organisers introduced the ‘Ultra Distance’ event consisting of a 20km run, 80km bike and a 10km run, distances to test athletes of every caliber. This sessions have been designed for those people doing longer distance events and in particular the London Duathlon’s Ultra Distance event.

Running off the bike is never easy and when you start increasing the distances other factors come into play such as hydration, nutrition and if you get these things wrong a long distance race can be a very long day out! So, if you want to experience running off the bike, and what the commonly known ‘jelly legs’ as well as be talked through the specifics of pacing, nutrition, hydration and put them into practise on the London Duathlon course then this session could be for you.

Whatever your reason for wanting to go longer and take on the challenge of the Ultra distance race, we are able to offer you as much advice as you require to make your race experience easier, faster and more enjoyable.

We also cover the transitions in between run/bike/run and then ask you to put it into practise during the session.

What is ‘transition’?

transitions are the period of time between each of the three disciplines where you change the necessary equipment to get on with the next section of the event. For some people the transition is a time to rest and make yourself comfortable so the next sport will be as easy as possible, for others it is ‘the 4th discipline’ and it’s all about how quickly you can get in and out saving as much time overall as possible.
Where
The sessions are held in the stunning Richmond Park, and the transition area is at Robin Hood Gate:

Where is Robin Hood Gate car park?

If you enter Richmond park through Richmond gate, Sheen gate or Roehampton Gate, you will need to turn LEFT and follow the road in the park round to small roundabout roughly 1 mile after Roehampton Gate. The car park is on your left hand side and there is a pedestrian only gate and toilet block all in the vicinity.

If you enter Richmond park through Kingston gate, you will need to turn RIGHT and follow the road until you drop down a short, sharp hill (Challenge Hill). After about 1km after the descent you will arrive at a small roundabout and see the transition area on your left. The car park is immediately after the roundabout on your right hand side.
