Hello RG Active People,
Back in November I was fortunate enough to be chosen for a photo shoot for the magazine Triathlon Plus with 2 other GB Age Groupers, Paul and Andy. The article was about acheiving your triathlon ambitions in this Olympic year 2012.
We started bright and early at 9am in the men’s only lake at Hampstead Heath north London. The weather could only have been better if it was 20 degrees warmer, but as the sun was shining and we were in wetsuits it didn’t matter too much. The lake was stunning at that time of the day and the handful of hardcore swimmers who went in for a dip, in just Speedos, were truly impressive. We really had nothing to complain about.
We then moved on to Parliament Hill for some running shots with the spectacular view of London as a back drop. Now without the warmth of the wetsuit we had to keep running to get the right shot as it was very chilly in just a tri-suit. We did have a few spectators along the way and a very inquisitive gentlemen who had raced in The Commonwealth Games himself many years ago. There was definitely a buzz being created with us 3 little lycra clad frozen athletes.
Carrying that buzz with us we jumped on the tube and went over to the embankment for the next set of shots. These were to be on the bike, The Boardman, that they editor supplied us with. We were to go slow but make it look like were going fast so the photographer could get the wheels spinning without the speed. It took a few times but we all got it in the end and without any casualties, thankfully.
Moving over to the Millenium Bridge we were running again and with St Pauls Cathedral in the background it was an incredible moment. We started gathering a group of spectators around taking pictures…it was so exciting, but so cold, but so exciting!
Finally our last stop was in front of the Millnenium Wheel. We were all thrilled when we knew we could keep on our trackie bottoms as it was night time and just a bit chilly. Everyone got some great shots and we all had such a fantastic day.
A unique opportunity and a wonderful experience that I will always be able to remember and share with my family and friends. Thank you Triathlon Plus!!
