Open Water Swimming – Keeping Warm!

Everyone feels the cold water to different degrees so you may or may not feel this items are required for yourself, but if you are looking to get in your local swim venue and start getting that in-valuable ‘wetsuit time’ then these could make your swimming so much more comfortable and enjoyable!

Back to training….. finally!

So many of my athletes/clients tend to panic when they get ill or injured. We regularly have athletes arrive at sessions full of cold or carrying injuries and because they are so scared of loosing fitness they are willing to punish themselves and put themselves in more danger of making their injuries worse, or pro-longing their illness?

Training on emotions…..

Over the last couple of months, and in particular the last few weeks, I have found myself spending more time thinking about and talking with athletes about how the physical efforts of an athlete only make up part of performance. While we spend many hours trying to achieve the best physical results and even looking at spending money in the search of speed, how long do we spend focusing on maybe the strongest of the bodies engines….. the mind.

Gaerne Carbon G. Chrono Road Shoes

The Gaerne Chrono G is no doubt the highest performance shoe in the Gaerne range; but even better than that, they are possible the best feeling shoe I have ever had on my foot and that says a lot! They do come with a hefty price tag though. A £299.99 price tag puts them on the level of some of the priciest non-custom shoes on the market.

BONT SHOES – GOOD ENOUGH FOR WIGGO!

I have weird feet. Stupid fat duck feet. Plain and simple. They’re wide, short, have high arches and a high instep to boot (see what I did there…) Ahem. This is a bit of a problem for someone keen on cycling.

The Wildman Duathlon 2012

The runners started off at 10am, then the duathletes next at 10:15. The first 10k run was actually quite pleasant. It was a rolling course through woods, across fields and along a high ridge where the rain seemed to hit us the hardest. I ran steady but happy, very happy to be running again on my ankle which I unfortunately sprained badly several weeks ago (this is the thus yet calmest manner in which I’ve spoken about it – see earlier posts for more ranting).

Base Training – “Time to slow it down”

What is Base Training & What are the Benefits?

This time of the year for athletes is a chance to continue training but decrease the intensity after a season of hard racing. It is counter-productive and physically very difficult to continue training all year round at high intensity and expect the body to keep responding in a positive way.

The Triathlon World Champs Auckland 2013

My once in a life time trip to New Zealand with John and Carole was truly an amazing adventure! Apart from the english-like weather that consumed us the entire time we were there, it was a fantastic trip. We arrived on the only sunny day out of the two weeks, how unfair is that?? And even when it did brighten up for a few fleeting minutes, the wind and rain were still ever present making cycling ridiculously treacherous even for the most competent rider. But enough about the weather, lets talk World Champs!

10 things you should know about Creatine

There are certain details nutrition professionals need to know about supplements. But as time has progressed I have come to learn that athletes just want to know the facts.

Will eating this work or won’t it? When should I take it? And how much should I take?
